Music has long been said to soothe the savage breast. And some will argue, affect good health. That’s why back in the early days of The Floating Hospital’s daily sea voyages, music was as integral to a doctor’s script as checkups, healthy food and fresh air. An 1877 ad for the clinic declared that music “…enlivens the convalescent and insures the results to all.” Many patients today recall participating in jamborees on the ship as a child, for many, the only musical interlude available to them, and one with long-lasting benefits. | |
